Tim Blake Nelson To DUNE: PART TWO

admin2021January 7, 2023

Tim Blake Nelson (Hail Caesar, Watchmen) is a late addition to the cast of Dune: Part Two which has already wrapped principle photography.

Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic sequel adapts the second half of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel. Nelson’s character has not been revealed. All major roles are filled but there is speculation he could playing Count Fenring, alongside Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot Fenring.

In the novel Dune, The Emperor Shaddam’s daughter Princess Irulan writes via epigraph:

“My father had only one real friend, I think. That was Count Hasimir Fenring…one of the deadliest fighters in the Imperium.”

She goes on to describe him as a dapper and ugly little man. Meanwhile Baron Vladimir Harkonnen refers to Fenring as:

“…a killer with the manners of a rabbit… the most dangerous kind.”

He is described as looking like a weak man with a weaselish face and overlarge dark eyes. As Shaddam’s chief counsellor, Fenring is described as “the Emperor’s errand boy” in the novel.

The sequel will start where Dune: Part One ended, with Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) and Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) joining the desert-dwelling Fremen while the vicious House Harkonnen reclaim control of Arrakis. Zendaya, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Stellan Skarsgard, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem all return. They are joined by Austin Butler as the Feyd-Rautha, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, and Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV.

Dune: Part Two will be released on November 3rd this year. The first one opened while COVID restrictions were still in place and had a day-and-date release on HBO Max, yet still managed to grossed $400.6 million. In the process it earned ten Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.

Nelson most recently voiced Black Rabbit in Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.
