Prodigy’ Finale Log – TrekMovie.com
Today, Paramount+ released the tenth and final installment of the season 1 series of Admiral Janeway Logs of Star Trek Logs on Instagram (voiced by Kate Mulgrew and written by co-executive producer Aaron Waltke). Like previous logs, this one is set after the latest episode, meaning it offers us our first glimpse into what happened after the season 1 finale (“Supernova, Part 2“) and offers clues for what’s to come in season 2.
A bold new era for the Prodigy kids
The new log was recorded one week after the events of the season finale. Janeway starts by laying out how things are looking up for the former crew of the USS Protostar, now Starfleet trainees…
A new day dawns. It’s been hardly a week in San Francisco, and the young, crew of the Protostar have settled into a bold new era of possibilities. Their heroism in the face of astonishing odds has moved even the sternest admirals at Starfleet Command. Though they could not enroll in the Academy, I have faith that time spent training in a non-commissioned role will serve them well… especially if they still hope to apply one day.

Dal follows in Bashir’s footsteps
Ahead of the season finale, it was made clear that Dal being a genetically modified Augment would prevent him from joining Starfleet and attending Starfleet Academy. Janeway argued against this in the finale, and as a result, Dal joined the others as a “warrant officer in training.” In her new log, Janeway talks about how this was a big step for Starfleet:
The exception made for Dal has widened the rights of augments left ambiguous by Bashir v. Starfleet Medical. Times are changing, it seems, especially as we open our minds to the young and the new perspectives they bring.

The admiral is referring to Dr. Julian Bashir from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. In the season 5 episode (set a decade before Prodigy), it was revealed that Dr. Bashir was genetically modified as a child. A Starfleet Judge Advocate allowed Dr. Bashir to remain in Starfleet; however, Bashir’s father was convicted of violating the rules against genetic engineering and sent to a penal colony. Based on her log, it appears this earlier ruling was “ambiguous,” and that Dal being let in has “widened the rights of Augments,” something TrekMovie predicted in November.

The search for Chakotay is classified
In the season finale, Hologram Janeway sacrificed herself and the USS Protostar and in the process created a new wormhole that matched the one that originally sent Captain Chakotay into the future on the Protostar. Admiral Janeway has made it clear through season 1 she is determined to find her former USS Voyager first officer and she ends her final log indicating she remains so:
But the case of Chakotay remains unanswered. The rift created by the Protostar’s detonation – and the alternate future awaiting us on the other side—have been classified by Starfleet under the Temporal Prime Directive.
But that doesn’t mean I’ve given up. We will find you Chakotay.

The finale indicated that Janeway was being given a choice of new ships to explore the wormhole, but this log hints she may have to deal with some Starfleet bureaucracy to fulfill her mission. She might have to navigate around the Department of Temporal Investigations.

The first season of Prodigy is available to stream exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S., and on Fridays in Latin America and select countries in Europe. The series is also carried on SkyShowtime in the rest of Europe with the second half of season one expected to arrive in 2023.
