Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2’s two-episode premiere has made Count Dooku’s fall to the dark side even worse after a new reveal in canon.

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: The Bad Batch’s season 2 premiere.Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2’s premiere introduced new canon reveals that make Count Dooku’s dark side fall even worse in retrospect. The Bad Batch’s two-part premiere saw Clone Force 99 being sent to an Outer Rim planet to obtain vast riches to further their cause with Cid. That planet was none other than Serenno, the homeworld of former Jedi-turned-Sith Count Dooku.

While on the planet, Clone Force 99 saw firsthand the Emperor’s cruelty. From the destruction of Serenno’s main village to the procuring of Dooku’s immense wealth after his execution by Anakin, and by extension Emperor Palpatine, The Bad Batch explored a planet that was vital to the High Republic era and the prequel trilogy. In doing so, The Bad Batch has revealed some new canon details surrounding Count Dooku that make his dark side fall all the worse, especially when compared to other recent Star Wars properties.

Count Dooku Began Using Tactics He Previously Fought Against In Star Wars

Count Dooku and Mace Windu appear in Tales of the Jedi.

The other Star Wars property in question is Tales of the Jedi. Tales of the Jedi was a series of six animated shorts, with three focusing on Dooku and his turn to the dark side of the Force. Two of these shorts featured Dooku as a Jedi, helping the planets of the Republic. In Tales of the Jedi episode 3, Dooku and Mace Windu were sent to Raxus to investigate the death of a fellow Jedi. Eventually, Dooku finds out that the Senator of Raxus was procuring his wealth at the cost of the planet’s people, detrimentally affecting Raxus’ residents.

Dooku understood the plight of Raxus’ people which is made worse by the reveals of The Bad Batch. On Serenno, Tech, Echo, and Omega of the titular Bad Batch encounter a surviving resident of Serenno. This old man reveals that Dooku did not just obtain his wealth by stealing from other planets, but Serenno’s people as well. This means that Dooku began using the tactic to procure his own wealth and fight the Clone War that he once fought against, truly exemplifying his fall to the dark side and abandonment of the Jedi ideals of peace and justice.

This reveal is very interesting in that it is another part of recent Star Wars canon that is developing Dooku’s story. Outside of the prequel trilogy and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars has not explored much of Dooku’s character in film and TV, especially under Disney’s ownership. However, that has changed of late with both the reveals about Dooku in Tales of the Jedi and now Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which potentially hints at future explorations of one of Star Wars’ most interesting characters.
