In its 10th season, Chicago PD was expected to have its biggest year thus far. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. The One Chicago police procedural had to say goodbye to original cast member, Jesse Lee Soffer, who officially exited the project as Detective Jay Halstead. Since then, the show has been struggling to find its footing. While it has released some great episodes that are reminiscent of old Chicago PD, a lot of its outings have felt underwhelming and formulaic. In its year-ended, the One Chicago series revisits an ongoing case that revolves around stopping white supremacist and domestic terrorist, Richard Beck’s nefarious plans.

Torres Misses Intelligence’s Biggest Case Of The Year

Despite the Intelligence Unit having to scramble to not only stop but figure out Beck’s scheme as well, the team is noticeably missing a key member in Officer Dante Torres in the Chicago Fire season 10 finale. Played by Benjamin Levy Aguilar, the character is fairly new to the show and only first appeared as a guest star in season 9 as a recruit who has a complicated past. Kevin Atwater explains that he’s out to accompany his mother on a health check-up.

This isn’t the first time that Torres missed an Intelligence case in Chicago PD season 10, however. Other times, he was supposedly in training as a new recruit. It’s quite peculiar, however, that NBC and Wolf Entertainment will opt to sideline a lead character during its biggest episode of the season.

Voight’s Relationship W/ ASA Chapman Gets More Complex

The latter half of Chicago PD season 10 has started to get ASA Nina Chapman more involved in Intelligence’s cases. She and Voight got particularly close when she personally tapped him to take care of a sensitive case. Her trust allowed Voight to be a bit more creative in how he approached the situation. Interestingly, however, despite all his help, Chapman subsequently criticized the Intelligence leader for how he operated. In the Chicago PD season 10 finale, the pair’s already complicated relationship becomes more complex as Chapman continues to be skeptical of Voight. How their partnership pans out in Chicago PD season 11 will definitely be interesting to see.

Burgess & Ruzek Are Fully Back Together (Are They Getting Married?)

As the original romantic pairing in Chicago PD, saying that Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek have gone through a lot would be an understatement. They were once engaged, but despite pulling the plug on their wedding and eventually dating other people, it has always been clear that they always have a special place in each other’s hearts.

After years of going back and forth in their relationship, they finally rekindled their romance. Motivated by Burgess’ therapy sessions for dealing with her PTSD from her near-death experience back in the season 8 finale, the Chicago PD season 10 capper firmly establishes that they are in it for the long haul. Perhaps when the police procedural returns next season, they can finally reconsider pushing through with their wedding.

Ruzek Is Fighting For His Life After Getting Fatally Shot

Speaking of Ruzek, the Chicago PD season 10 finale focuses on his season-long attempt to crack into Beck’s inner circle. At the very end, it’s his unwavering commitment to keep Samantha Beck and her son, Callum, safe that leads him into trouble. Not realizing how much his grandfather has poisoned the boy’s mind, Ruzek is shot point-blank by Callum. Meanwhile, Samantha opts to save his son and leaves the Intelligence member bleeding on the floor. He gets into Chicago Med just in time, but NBC is keeping his fate in limbo until season 11. New promo images from the Chicago PD season 10 finale may have spoiled Ruzek’s survival, however.

Beck Is Dead, But His Fight Is Only Starting

While Ruzek is fighting for his life in the hospital, the rest of Intelligence hunts down Beck in the remaining minutes of the Chicago PD season 10 finale. Ultimately, they end up catching all three family members, but after the patriarch holds his own grandson hostage to get away, Voight hesitates to go after him, worried that Callum might get hurt. In the end, an off-screen Atwater successfully kills Beck. However, while he has been killed, the look on Callum’s face hints that his grandfather’s white supremacist agenda will not die with the man.

Sam and Callum are both taken into custody, although Chicago PD doesn’t show them again after Beck’s death. Considering her cooperation, however, it’s curious if the judge will honor the full immunity deal that Chapman has offered to Samantha. As for Callum, he’s a minor, so he’s likely going to be released after all the paperwork is done.

What To Expect From Chicago PD Season 11

Chicago pd one character episodes

As with the rest of the One Chicago franchise, Chicago PD is already confirmed to return in the next fall TV season. Unlike previous years when it scored a multi-season renewal, however, the police procedural is only guaranteed for season 11. Nevertheless, it’s more than enough time to finally start fixing the issues that plagued season 10. Hopefully, Torres gets better integrated into Voight’s team. Even with him, Intelligence is still undermanned, so having some new cast additions could revitalize the show. Finally, Hailey Upton’s open-ended marriage with Jay Halstead needs a definitive resolution.
